I hope that you and your family had a good holiday season and that the first few weeks of 2006 have been enjoyable. As I begin the second semester of my sophomore year at the University of Massachusetts, I thought that I'd send you a letter updating you on my progress this past semester.
In addition to my academic life. I have been quite busy with my extra-curricular activities. Prior to the start of this past semester, Dr. Jefferson, my academic advisor, asked me to become a peer mentor for the sport management program. As a peer mentor, I am assigned two freshmen and advise them on different topics such as registering for classes and making sure that their transition to college from high school is going smoothly. I am enjoying helping other students by giving them advice and hoping that my past experiences will make their time in college more enjoyable.
Before I left for winter vacation, I was also selected to be a part of the Isenberg School of Management's Global Business Experience Program, which this year is taking place in Ireland. For two weeks after classes finish this semester, I will be touring Ireland in Derry and Donegal, learning about how the Irish economy operates to gain first-hand insight into business development in Ireland. Over the two weeks, I will meet with business and government leaders, tour business facilities and cultural sites, attend university lectures, and do community service work. During the spring semester I will be taking a class focusing on business development and conflict resolution over in Ireland to better understand what I will be learning about in the two weeks that I am over there.
During the fall semester, I completed almost all of my general education requirements so now I am able to focus on my business and sport management classes, which I am really looking forward to. This upcoming semester I will be taking classes in Introduction to Sport Law, Economics of Sport, Fundamentals of Marketing, and Principles of Management, in addition to the Irish Business class.
My first three semesters have truly been amazing and you are the reason why my life dreams are slowly coming true. As each semester progresses, I realize how fortunate I am to have come in contact with you, Bill Broderick, and the Physically Challenged Irish and American Youth Team. Thank you once again for this great opportunity.
Sincerely,
Danny Fava
