The PCIAYT Forum is now open! If you know of any current or former Team members, parents, volunteers, or others who would be interested in participating in the Forum, please let them know about it. Probably the best way is to give them a link to this page. The link for this page is: http://pcirishteam.org/forum.cgi.
Anyone may read the Forum, but to post comments and replies, you need to become a member. Go here for instructions on how to register and become a member.
If you haven't visited the Forum before, please read the descriptions of the various groups below. After you've done that...
If you are just joining the PCIAYT Forum, the New Members group is a good place to make your first post. Why not take a minute to say hello and introduce yourself? If you have friends who are already members, you'll be letting them know you are here. If you are here to make new friends, this gives everyone a chance to take note of your arrival and give you a nice welcome.
These are the main forums for current and former members. Share memories of your experience with the Team. Talk about how things are going now. If you are a member of a previous Team, any advice for current members? Or, just renew friendships, talk about how your life is going now. Crack jokes!
Basically, there are no "assigned topics" for these groups. The groups are there for you to make them into anything you want them to be. The only reason the year is in the name of each Forum is so we can add a little organization to the chat, and to keep any one group from getting huge and unmanageable.
Homesick? Missing Mom & Dad or maybe even (gasp!) your brothers & sisters? Use this group to keep in touch. Your family & friends back home want to know how your trip is going! How did you do at the games? What interesting place did you visit today? Check in everyday to see what new questions and comments the folks back home have posted for you.
(Do remember, though, that this is a public forum available for anyone to read. You'll probably want to confine to email any messages that should remain private.)
Something big going on in your life? New job? Got accepted at your favorite school? Good news, probably some bad news every once in a while... This is a good place to pass on the word about those things you want people to especially notice.
This group is intended primarily, but not exclusively, for parents of current and former Team members. Questions from parents of new members of the Team? Advice from parents of previous members? What should you have packed for your child that you didn't? How do you deal from afar with your child's homesickness?
Team members who have something they want to say to the parents are also welcome.
In short, the group is intended as a place for the parents of Team members to share their advice, experiences, and concerns.
Pretty much the same idea as the parents group, but for volunteers.
Use this group to ask a technical or other sort of question about the Forum, or to make suggestions on how to improve the place. Also, from time to time we will post "help" items that address frequently asked questions so you might want to make it a practice to check in on this forum every once in a while.
Please note that we tried to find forum software that comes as close as possible to meeting the Web Accessibility Standard. PunBB, the application we are using, comes very, very close, but it does not meet the Standard perfectly. Use this forum to tell us about any difficulties you are having using the Forum. Our goal is to try to make the Forum available to everyone who wants to participate.
This is for notices regarding upcoming events, news about the charity, etc. Members cannot start a new topic here (it's for "Official Announcements", after all), but they may post replies and comments concerning any announcements or news items posted by the Forum administrator.
